Summary
This guidance note, the third and final in a series developed by Evidensia and ISEAL for the Knowledge Platform for Inclusive and Sustainable Food Markets (KISM), is part of the CGIAR Rethinking Food Markets Initiative. It explores key interventions for creating and promoting inclusive employment and decent work in agri-food systems, based on the initiative’s ‘Creating more and better employment in agrifood systems’ meta-study.
This note discusses the employment and inclusion effects of digital innovations in agri-food value chains. The authors present key findings on the potential benefits, challenges, trade-offs, and common equity issues that arise with adopting or implementing digital innovations. They then introduce an equity framework to ensure more equitable outcomes for vulnerable stakeholders, using practical examples from the Rethinking Food Markets initiative interventions to demonstrate how the framework can be applied in real-world contexts.
