Summary
This webinar, shares insights from ISEAL's report focusing on the principle of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) and its application by sustainability standards across sectors. The research studies how leading sustainability tools conceptualise and implement the FPIC principle in the context of companies’ engagement with indigenous and local communities. The research draws practical lessons and insights from existing knowledge and aims to support standards systems in improving their effectiveness in implementing FPIC as a way to enable the protection and respect of indigenous rights and the safeguarding of vulnerable and resource-dependent communities.
The webinar counts with Emma Wilson, lead researcher and author of the report. She is also joined by Lisa Sumi (Director of Standards and Assurance at Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA)) and Soledad Mills (Chief Executive Officer at Equitable Origin (EO)) that share their reflections on the findings from the report and what they mean for their sustainability standards schemes.
