Summary
This guidance note, the second in a series developed by Evidensia and ISEAL for the Knowledge Platform for Inclusive and Sustainable Food Markets (KISM), is part of the CGIAR Rethinking Food Markets Initiative. It explores key interventions for creating and promoting inclusive employment and decent work in agri-food systems, based on the initiative’s ‘Creating more and better employment in agrifood systems’ meta-study.
This note focuses on the impact of Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS), such as Global G.A.P. and Fairtrade, on decent work outcomes in the agri-food sector. By analysing key findings from both the meta-study and the Evidensia systematic review on the effectiveness of supply-chain sustainability approaches on decent work outcomes in the agricultural sector, the authors provide actionable recommendations to enhance working conditions, wages, and inclusion across agricultural value chains.
