Summary

Australia is a deforestation hotspot due to the beef industry. Major beef buyers need to ensure deforestation-free supply chains by 2025 to align with international sustainability goals. This report utilises a deforestation scorecard to assesses how the commitments and implementation efforts of ten of Australia’s largest beef buyers measure against a conversion- and deforestation-free target by 2025. It finds that none of these buyers are on track to meet this target, suggesting that the industry must prioritize environmental conservation and implement clear plans to achieve deforestation-free status by 2025.
