Summary
The report is focused on the actions needed to improve the environmental, socio-economic, and nutritional outcomes of global vegetable oil production. The report was developed through a non-systematic literature review with narrative synthesis to generate insights about vegetable oils, in addition to expert consultation of 25 vegetable oil experts working in government, private sector, non-government, and research sectors. The report emphasises the importance of respecting the rights of and supporting smallholder and local oil production systems due to their positive socio-economic outcomes and contribution to food security. The report acknowledges that within each vegetable oil system, there are both good and bad actors and outcomes, and urges for a nuanced perspective. A systemic approach is recommended to effectively address various challenges.
