Summary

This thesis researches two resistance strategies of peasant coffee farmers in Costa Rica to the coffee crisis. The two strategies were participation in Fair Trade and the adoption of agroecological farming practices. The study finds that Fair Trade premiums did not offer sufficient support for the smallholders during the crisis.
