Summary

This thesis presents the results of an ethnographic study into the viability of organic coffee production and cooperative organisation as a momde of development in Las Segovias de Nicaragua. The author argues that community-wide acceptance is unlikely as long as long as development modes are designed far from the sites of their application, whereas incorporating local peoples’ perspectives into the implementation of development schemes would likely yield greater results.
