Summary
This report forms the first part of a two-phase study, combining iterature review with data from a number of stakeholder interviews to lay the foundations for the second phase of more intenstive fieldwork. The authors outline lessons from, and prospects for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification in devleoping world countries, providing an overview of the marktet for sustainable seafood, MSC operations, drivers and barriers to certification, and the impacts of certifcation for fiseries in developing countries, with the overall aim of understanding the suitability of MSC certification for these fisheries.
